Seeing Yourself with Softer Eyes
Most of us were never taught how to speak kindly to ourselves. We learned how to encourage others, comfort others, support others… but when it comes to our own hearts, our inner voice can be sharp, impatient, or quietly critical.
This week, I want to invite you into something gentler.
Seeing yourself with softer eyes. Not perfect eyes. Not endlessly positive eyes. Just… softer.
The kind of softness you’d offer a friend. The kind of softness you’d offer a child. The kind of softness you deserve too.
Mirror work (the gentle version)
Mirror work doesn’t have to be dramatic or uncomfortable. It can be as simple as pausing for a moment, meeting your own gaze, and offering a kind sentence.
Not to fix anything. Not to force confidence. Just to acknowledge your own humanity.
Try this:
Look at yourself and say, “I’m doing the best I can.”
That’s enough.
Softening your self‑talk
Your inner voice shapes how safe you feel in your own body. When it’s harsh, everything feels harder. When it softens, your nervous system loosens its grip.
Here are five gentle affirmations you can use this week:
- I am allowed to take up space.
- I am doing the best I can with what I have.
- I deserve rest, care, and compassion.
- I am learning to be kinder to myself.
- I don’t have to be perfect to be worthy.
Choose one. Let it sit with you. Let it become a quiet companion.
Speaking to yourself like someone you love
Imagine someone you care about deeply. Imagine they came to you tired, overwhelmed, or unsure.
You wouldn’t tell them to push harder. You wouldn’t shame them for struggling. You wouldn’t expect perfection.
You’d offer warmth. You’d offer understanding. You’d offer softness.
You deserve that too.

A final whisper
You don’t have to earn kindness. You don’t have to prove your worth. You don’t have to be perfect to be loved — especially by yourself.
Seeing yourself with softer eyes is a practice. And every tiny moment counts.
